"Unprofessional rude and unkind staff"

About: Warrington Hospital

I was directed to A and E but my GP and 111.On arrival at 10.30 6 people were queuing to the door.2 were bleeding .Only one of the three reception staff was checking In. I was checked in efficiently. After an hour and a half I saw the doctor who asked ,why are you in “Accident and Emergency”.A question she asked 2 more times , implying I had no right to be there. When I asked if I might finish answering the question, her eyes flashed with annoyance . Then on to ambulatory care ,where I was greeted with” sit in the waiting room” . Please wasn’t used. The water jugs in the stuffy roomwere empty so I asked an auxiliary if I could fill them .She grunted and returned them saying there’s your water.

After a couple of hours I asked if I could pop for a sandwich . A nurse said I wouldn’t if I were you ,I might have a sandwich in the fridge. It never materialised. I would have got something earlier but didn’t think I would be quite so long.I hadn’t eaten for 8 hours

After another hour or so I saw a doctor . She was a breath of fresh air

Professional, empathetic , took time to explain everything and above all smiled I waited another ten mins while she checked everything with another doctor ,then I left at 4.45. Bought a sandwich.

. I noticed that in reviews so many of the other departments are receiving great praise and thanks despite the dreadful pressure you are all under . My experiences out your staff over many years with myself , my husband and many times with my kids has always been praiseworthy, but I note a great proportion of the complaints are about A and E . There is a lack of respect , communication and politeness and professionalism. There is a dark undercurrent in the whole department , which I feel the management should address. The people who enter the ward are sometimes scared, in pain and traumatised. I know some are not respectful but a little human kindness might make them feel a little better and less aggressive. Please give your staff the support , training and praise they need and encourage them to smile a bit more.

We are really sorry to read about your experience on visiting our A&E and would advise you email our patient advice and liaison service (PALS), with details of date/time so that we can look into this further for you. Your feedback will help us improve our service and training support for our staff. We are pleased to note that you were able to access the right treatment for yourself and hope that you are feeling much better now.
