"You will never go hungry"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Elective Overnight Stay Centre/Gynaecology Ward Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Accident and emergency was fine the longest bit was the wait on a bed. The results also took a while after the tests were done. I find it odd they do a covid test on you but you will not get the results for a good while, it stresses me out in case I am near someone that has it and does not know they have it. Accident and emergency is a stressful place with things happening all the time and constant.

The staff there are so nice, they have so much pressure on them, their job definitely for the faint hearted with the things they see. They do not judge you for anything probably because they have seen it all.

Female surgical has been standard, the care is very good though. The environment is fine, lighting, noise the whole lot. The food is good also, there is plenty on the plate, and you will never go hungry.

The staff are lovely, they are definitely stressed out though, with the amount of people they are looking after and all the jobs they have to do.

I am happy with everything and especially the care I am receiving.

Thanks for your feedback, we apologise for the long wait for a bed on an inpatient ward. Unfortunately the hospital wards have a significant number of medical well patients they cannot discharge due to problems accessing social care in the community.

All patients are swabbed upon entry to the Emergency Department, anyone presenting with covid symptoms are advised to remain or find a seat in waiting room one as advised by reception staff to reduce further spread of the virus. However with more patients presenting with no covid symptoms this can prove difficult. We as staff are informed of positive results after 15-20 mins of test being analysed and make an effort to try and inform service users of the importance of wearing a mask and maintaining a safe distancing.

Thank you for you positive feedback and overall experience in the Emergency Department we’re glad you had a good experience even though the wait was long, and wish you a speedy recovery.

Paul Smyth

Head of Service ED
