"No sense of urgency"

About: Willowbrook Medical Centre (Jg Astles)

I attended a HRT review today and should have had a blood test at the same time, due to stopping some medication the Dr had asked me to have a blood test after 3 months of not taking it. I had booked an appointment at the beginning of May for June, but I received a text to say they had to cancel that appointment and wanted to book me 2 appointments instead of the one. I work full time like a lot of people and couldn't understand why you would book 2 appointments when one person could do both things. So eventually they booked me an appointment today for both the HRT check and blood tests. I am a difficult to bleed patient and this is clear on my notes. The nurse I saw was obviously very uncomfortable with taking blood out of a hand and I could clearly see their nerves, so as you would expect no blood was able to be drawn. Their answer was to say they would get another appointment booked to have the blood taken. I asked if there was anyone else about who could do the blood test to which the reply was no. I find this very frustrating and a complete waste of not only my time, but the staff at the surgeries time too.

While I appreciate that the number of patients the surgery now sees has increased, but surely having fully trained/skilled staff available would cut down on the amount of appointments needed and not annoy your patients.

I am not holding my breath for information about going for this blood test as I get the feeling as soon as I walked out of the consulting room, I was forgotten about. That was my level of confidence in the individual I saw.

Dear Tracey,

We are very sorry to hear that your recent experience with Willowbrook Medical Centre did not reflect the standards in which we aim to work.

Our patient’s experience is of paramount importance to us, and we would like to thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

We acknowledge the frustrations you must have felt having attended an appointment at the surgery, and ultimately having to reschedule this appointment due to the unsuccessful attempt at obtaining your bloods. We are very sorry for this.

Please be assured that we do employ fully qualified staff, that do work under immense pressures within the NHS. I am unable to comment as to why the clinician was unable to retrieve your bloods, and can but only apologise for this.

The surgery would like the opportunity to discuss this further with you, to offer a resolution to your appointment if possible; and we would be grateful if you would contact our team on: wh.feedback@nhs.net

Again, we would like to thank you for your valuable feedback and allowing us the opportunity to resolve your concerns.

Yours sincerely,

Willowbrook Patient Services and Quality Team.
