In July I awoke early morning and was unable to move. Something odd was happening to me. I stumbled out of bed collapsing on the floor. My wife realised something serious was happening and called for an ambulance, at this point I was unable to sit up as I kept falling over.
The ambulance arrived very quickly and the crew were able immediately to take care of the situation. They suspected I had taken a stroke and this was confirmed after I was admitted to Stranraer Community Hospital.
I was now in safe hands. Over the next ten days, the care and attention I received in the stroke ward and the rehabilitation unit was excellent. My family were also kept up to date with my progress, nothing appeared to be too much trouble for the hospital staff although they were extremely busy.
The After Care - In the time from discharge until the present I have been well looked after by Elaine the Stroke Nurse at her Outpatient Clinic, Vari the Physiotherapy Department and home visits by Andrea and Sarah of the Occupational Therapy Team .
In conclusion I can attest that I personally have nothing but praise for the NHS within Dumfries & Galloway
