"No triage "

About: Wythenshawe Hospital

Brought my son who had tested positive for corona virus and was having trouble breathing.

I knew it would be a long wait as A&E was very busy. That was not the problem. What took me by surprise was the fact that 2 hours in, my son, despite presenting with breathing difficulties had not been seen by triage.

He eventually decided that he would be better off at home, propped up on pillows. If you cannot even get around to carrying out an initial assessment of your patients, what is your function?

The attendances to the Emergency Department are extremely high and the department is busy as you have acknowledge in your feedback. I agree a 2 hour wait for triage is excessive and unusual. As there is no actual detail around dates or times I’m unable to answer your concerns raised accurately. Therefore, if you would like to discuss this with us in more detail, please feel free to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@mft.nhs.uk quoting PO22/0055. I can only apologise for the delay and hope your son was able to seek the medical help he required. Can I advise if you attend the department and are experiencing long delays for triage, please ask to speak to the Nurse In Charge of the shift to see how this can be resolved.
