After being becoming poorly the last 3 weeks of my gestational diabetes pregnancy I went into Southend Hospital to be induced. Most of the staff were very kind and helpful on MB1 but the 2 members of staff that listened to my concerns about my baby was Abigail and student Jasmine. They made sure I had everything I needed (I kept suffering with diabetic hypos) then when I went round to CDS to deliver my baby and start the induction process. Nothing seemed to be working after a few days and I was getting tired and I needed to have several cannulas in my hand as the other ones I previously had kept swelling. The midwife Ellie managed to get one in my hand without causing me to get upset - my veins are deep and quite non existent!
Overall my birth experience was positive this time round and even in a heatwave everyone was so positive and helpful. CDS was so short staffed that day when I was in labour. I was pleased to see my community midwife Jamie walk in and deliver my baby. The labour was very long and my contractions kept stopping and starting but she helped me get though it even though the doctors were suggesting emergency C section.
I cannot thank her enough for that long shift staying with me.
