"Life changing care"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Cardiology (Wards 19, 24, 43a, 43b & 44a) Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Outpatients

(as a service user),

I am very late to post this, but having just found this website i would like to pass on my thanks to Dr Brady and Dr Watkins at Glasgow Royal Infirmary Outpatients Dept.

During my early 20s i suffered from severe hypertension and was subsequently put on multiple bloody pressure medications for this and was also diagnosed with LV hypertrophy as a result. I was warned umpteen times not to fall pregnant as it would be dangerous for me. I also suffered lots of side effects from these medications and felt unwell for years. My care was transferred to the GRI in my 30s where i was seen by Dr Brady who discovered i had FMD in my renal artery which was causing the hypertension. I was then placed under the care of Dr Watkins who suggested an angioplasty and stent to attempt to treat this (i was informed this is not guaranteed to work). I was very lucky and the procedure cured my high blood pressure. I no longer need to take any medication for my blood pressure and am delighted to say i have recently had a healthy baby. I am seen annually for checkups and every time am treated with care, dignity and respect. I will never be able to thank Dr Watkins and Dr Brady enough for all the care i have been given from them and for the huge improvement in my life as a result.

Dear jazzsc38

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such lovely feedback in regards to your experience of using the Cardiology and Outpatients Departments of the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Firstly, congratulations on the birth of your new baby from myself and all the staff in the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. You must be over the moon.

It was wonderful to hear of your transformation from your early 20's until now and how much your life has changed for the better. I can only begin to imagine how much of a struggle this must have been through the years so to hear you were provided with such wonderful support from our staff was really heart warming.

I will be sure to pass on your thanks to all the staff involved especially Dr Watkins and Dr Brady who I'm sure will be touched to hear your lovely comments.

Kind regards

Kevin
