I know lots of people myself included that have found at times a Video Call/Virtual Consultation (VC) for appointment is not what you wished for or that you got anything out of it, however we are in challenging times & a new way of the NHS working needs to be looked at.
Well the other day I had a VC for my Osteoporosis & it was just great. Consultant apologised for wait (only 10mins) but that was fine as I was in my own surroundings, no travel which for me & my other health conditions is a plus also no 75 mile round trip & it allowed my partner to be part of it & make notes - so easy to forget what was said.
The Consultant was lovely, there was no need for hands on (yes there are times when hands on & face to face is needed especially if there's IT issues or communication challenges & health issues) she explained everything listened to my questions & answered them, came up with a treatment plan plus I will get a letter explaining all of this as well.
There was no anxiety of having to get to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI) on time, waiting in the hot stuffy waiting room, watching others get restless, uncomfortable drive there & back for me, saved expensive petrol & time off work for my partner to take me.
The appointment went well, I didn't feel rushed, having it in the back of my mind others waiting then a journey home remembering all the questions you wanted to ask. It was a relaxed appointment for me. I have had VCs that have been fraught with IT issues at ARIs end & I do feel there are some medical areas that VC isn't for me but in life there are things that work for some & not for others. So thank you Dr Hollick.
