"Brilliant care - patient safety concern"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Day Surgery Unit

(as a service user),

On admission to the Day Case Ward the greeting was lovely and you're made to feel welcomed by the reception team.

It was quite relaxed and people were advised that because of the heatwave happening they could step out for a breath of fresh air.  Theatre staff and anaesthetists were brilliant. Again easing any nerves.

On return from theatre whilst caring, the staff didn’t seem to recognise the need for ensuring safety of a patient well enough. I can speak up for myself but for someone who couldn’t you could left isolated in the toilet with no call bell near you. I couldn’t reach the call bell if I felt faint.

Also there was no toilet paper and I couldn’t call for anyone to assist me. This does seem to be a common thread in care for a person that you can be left alone in a toilet with no ability to call for help. It has happened to me before. Other than that the overall care was perfect.
