"Given a sense of purpose"

About: Belfast City Hospital / Intensive Care Unit Oncology / Physical Activity Classes

(as a service user),

I spent nearly two weeks completely bed bound including a period in ICU following a hospital admission through A&E.

At first, when I got out of bed, I couldn’t even walk to my bedside chair. I was anxious about my lack of fitness as I had a big op to prepare for.

Joe S, the Friends of the Cancer Centre Physical Activity Coach, provided a programme for me which got me exercising in the ward.

Once home, I attended his online classes.

I structured my week around exercise. As well as helping me physically prep for the op, it gave me a focus and a feeling of control.

I would highly recommend this or a similar service.

I now feel confident exercising on my own and the mental and physical benefits are hard to overstate.

Dear Belfast patient,

Thank you for taking the time to post about your experience with our physical activity coach both as an in-patient and through his online classes.

I am delighted that you would highly recommend this service and that you are now confidently exercising on your own.

I will pass on your kind words to Joe and the rest of the physiotherapy team.

Best wishes,

Bernie
