"Teenage mental helth"

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter has been suffering in silence for over 6 years with OCD. She only spoke up about it a month ago as she had reached breaking point and started suffering panic attacks that, since she told us, have been getting worse, lasting up to 14 hours at times. Getting help when she is in such a bad way has been tough, constantly feeling like we’re talking to brick walls.

After numerous calls to the GP, to CAMHS & 2 attendances at A&E she was given an emergency appointment with CAMHS today with two of the most lovely people I've ever met, Michelle & Peter.  They were wonderful throughout the appointment, full of empathy & understanding, even how they spoke was very calming & my daughter was so relieved that they were taking her seriously. We know this is the beginning of her journey to getting better, but thanks to Michelle & Peter for giving us the hope that we were so desperately looking for.

Hi Bonnie2

Thank you for taking the time to share your story.

I am delighted to hear that your daughter had a really positive experience at her CAMHS appointment and found the staff to be empathic, understanding and calming. This is the start of her recovery journey and it's reassuring to know that both you and your daughter feel hopeful.

I am sorry that both of you experienced a difficult start to accessing help from the right service at the right time. However, it sounds like the right connection has been made now.

I will pass this story on to Peter and Michelle as they will be pleased to know that the appointment went well and that she felt heard by them.

Best wishes

Mhairi
