"Fantastic maternity care in the Scottish Borders"

About: Borders Community Services / Community Maternity service Borders General Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

From the moment I found out I was pregnant I have nothing but positive comments to make regarding the support from maternity staff. From the community midwives, my consultant to the nursing staff that supported with the birth of my baby girl at the start of July.

My community midwife in Galashiels supported with anxieties around pregnancy, struggling with change and also external factors. Her manner and approach made me feel really supported which I am so grateful for. What's more having her throughout the whole pregnancy was fantastic for continuity and having that same friendly face.

When I went into labour at the BGH I found all the nursing staff and student nurses amazing. They couldn't do enough to keep my partner and I calm, comfortable and informed. We were looked after by the most wonderful senior midwife and student nurse who ensured we knew what was going on at all times from the moment we entered, to the emergency C section to the next day when she had arrived. Ward 16 looked after my baby girl and I for two days after, supporting with, breastfeeding and the emotional rollercoaster that is birth. They ensured not only my baby was well but me as a new mumma, something you don't think of when you have a little person to look after.

Aftercare from the community midwives for the 10 days before health visiting take over was really supportive, encouraging positive feeding experiences, whatever that may be for me and my baby and ensuring that we are both doing well I was given lots of information and tips that have been invaluable.

I honestly can't thank all the staff enough as I don't think my experience would of been the same without the team effort of the staff involved in my care and the support given to my partner and baby girl. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Dear Cocomac,

Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback your experience to us.

I am so glad you had such a positive experience and that you felt so well supported by all our staff. I am delighted to hear that you appreciated the continuity of community midwifery care as this is something we are striving to provide to all women where possible.

It is wonderful to hear about your positive experience of feeding and that our staff were able to provide you with personalised care.

Having a new baby is a very exciting and busy time and we wish you and your family all the best for the future.
