"Not fit for purpose "

About: City Hospital (Birmingham)

My daughter was admitted last Monday evening following a seizure. Medically she was discharged but has sustained an injury in her hip. She was placed on cardiology ward as only bed available. She is still there with an agonising hip pain and is positioned with her leg at 90 degree angle in spasm and is totally unable to move it. Every day a different doctor says something different. She has had X-ray but has been waiting for mri scan which she was booked in yesterday but the porter left her so didn’t get done. She has been left in same position and is totally unable to move, wash, dress and in same gown as when admitted. She was supposed to be transferred to Sandwell as they have trauma and orthopaedic department but this hasn’t happened either. She is in constant pain, exhausted not eating or drinking much and is deteriorating but no action is being taken. I’ve requested transfer to any other hospital with has trauma and orthopaedic department but again nothing. Not even seen a physio. She is week and deeply distressed. I can only hope by leaving this review will get her the help she requires.

I’m sorry to hear about the your daughter’s experience at City Hospital. This is not the kind of treatment we would expect and would like to investigate further. If your daughter is still in our care, you can use the Purple Point feedback service, who can look into your concerns. The service can be contacted via telephone points across the hospital sites, alternatively, you can call 0121 507 4999 direct from your own phone. However, if your daughter has since been discharged and you would like raise your concerns through our complaints team please email swbh.complaints@nhs.net with details of your experience so that it can be investigated. With kind regards, Richard Beeken, Chief Executive.
