"Wound clip removal"

About: Community/District Nursing / Perth & Kinross South District Nursing

(as the patient),

I was wondering if it is an option to have the number of wound clips inserted into a wound noted on the Final Discharge Document.

The reason for this question is that I have had problems with the removal of the clips. The first nurse said that there were 29 clips. As the wound seemed unstable, she removed every alternate one.(Day 13)

The second nurse said there were only 13 clips left.(Day 18)

I then discovered another clip and had to go and have it removed.(Day 21)

If I had known exactly how many had been inserted this could have saved some hassle.

Dear nether23

Thank you for providing this feedback. We are sorry to hear you experienced issues with the stability of your wound and multiple returns to have the clips removed. To be able to investigate this further, it would be helpful if you could email tay.pkhscpcomplaints@nhs.scot so that with some additional information, we can help prevent this in future.

Best wishes

NHS Tayside

Dear nether23

Thank you for your feedback about your care and the unfortunate need for many visits to remove your wound clips. I will discuss this with all the staff in the South Locality District Nursing teams. We will ensure that when patients are discharged to our care from the hospital there is better documentation in place.

I am sorry that there has been a delay in responding to your feedback- the NHS Tayside board and Perth and Kinross Partnership have been trying to find the right person to respond to your story.

If I can be of any further help, please get in touch.

Best wishes, Colette Begg, Community Nursing Team Lead, P&K South Locality Community Nursing Service, NHS Tayside.
