"Carpel Tunnel release"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust

(as the patient),

Early july I had elected Carpel Tunnel release operation on right wrist at Grantham Hospital.  Have Atrial Fibrillation so have to take Apixaban twice daily.

In August 2021 had same operation on left wrist at a private hospital and was told to take last Apixaban at 8.00pm on the Wednesday for the operation to be carried out the following Saturday.  I suffered a stroke that day. Following the operation Son rushed me to Lincoln City Hospital and I spent next eleven days in Stroke Ward.

Therefore I was very apprehensive of needing the second operation.

This time I was totally reassured by my Consultant at Lincoln Hospital saying he would operate at Grantham Hospital and telling me there was no need to stop the Apixaban but other precautions would be taken.

All staff were very kind and welcoming on arrival and I was reassured again after the visit of the consultant and anaesthetist.

Even the Operating Theatre felt welcoming. not easy to achieve!

A tourneque was placed around my upper arm as a precautionary measure and the operation proceeded without incident.

I cannot praise the Consultant, the Anaethetist, nurses, all the staff at Grantham Hospital highly enough. I do not believe I could have received better care in any hospital. It was exemplary in every respect, and I thank them so very much.

Dear Patriciamarie

Thank you so much for the feedback and for taking the time to write in to us. I am so pleased it all went well this time as you have been through a lot of trauma to get this operation done. I will share this with the theatre staff and with the ward staff as we thrive on patient experience such as yours when they are a success. It boosts morale and makes the staff fell they are doing their job well when patients take this time to contact us. I am really pleased you managed now to get both wrists done and it hopefully has made your quality of life a lot easier and you have recovered fully from your stroke.

KR

Julie
