"Thank you for my kind and compassionate care"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Day Surgery Victoria Hospital / SEAL (Surgical Elective Admission Lounge)

(as the patient),

I attended day care at Queen Margaret hospital to have a small operation to remove a stuck Mirena coil a few days ago.

I was very nervous but was looked after by a lovely nurse called Jen who took care of me during my stay. She was so kind and professional.

When I woke up after the procedure I knew that things had not gone to plan as I was in theatre a lot longer than 1st thought. My consultant Mr Poulle explained that the coil was embedded in my womb and he was unable to remove it. He also found a cyst on my ovary which would also need removed.

I was totally in shock when he explained that I would have to go home and isolate again then return in 3 days to have another operation which might involve a hysterectomy. I was glad to hear that he would do the operation and I would have the same consultant anaesthetist Dr Donnelly who had been so good with me.

I returned to the SEAL unit at Victoria hospital a few days later to have my second operation.

I was terrified. I can’t remember the name of the nurse that admitted me due to nerves but think she was the SCN as she had a navy blue uniform on. She was lovely to me and did all she could to set me at ease and help me relax.

Dr Donnelly and all the anaesthetic staff were great but he in particular went out of his way to set me at ease and could not have done anymore for me. He is amazing at his job and deserves a special mention.

After my operation I was transferred into ward 54 where I recovered with nurse Sean and 2 student nurses looking after me. Mr Poulle came to see me and explained that everything was removed and I didn’t need the big operation so I was able to go home. I was totally relieved and cried happy tears.

I want to thank Mr Poulle for everything that he did for me as I feel he went above and beyond. From the moment I meet him in his clinic he has been so kind, compassionate and professional. I have never been a patient or had an operation before this week and have had such a positive experience that I want to thank everyone for the excellent care and compassion.

We are so lucky to have a NHS and all these lovely people mentioned going above and beyond each and every day. Especially  during every increasingly difficult times.

Thank you all so much.

Dear Nancy 82,

Thank you so much for sharing your story on care opinion.

I am so glad this worked well for you and that you were very happy with the standard of care you received when you had to come into the hospital for treatment on the two occasions. I understand that this must have been difficult time for you.

I will certainly ensure that the teams across the Day Surgery Unit at Queen Margaret and the SEAL and Ward 54 at Victoria Hospital are sighted of your post. Dr Poulle, Dr Donnelly, Jen and Sean and the wider teams will be delighted.

regards Arlene
