"Lack of Protocols"

About: Salisbury Plain Health Centre

I was very disappointed in the lack of protocols followed, when calling the practice about my daughter who had to have minor surgery abroad and needed further urgent treatment when returning a few days later to the UK. Via email (1day before she arrived back), I contacted the practice via email. No, response. After a telephone call to the practice, the lovely receptionist looked into the matter and advised me that the email had been received and would be dealt with by a GP. We were told to expect a call the next day by 2/3pm. No call was received…I then called. The receptionist asked “did the GP not call you?” No! She then went to enquire and returned to the phone with the reply “The GP said, GO TO A&E”!!!!!

This does NOT follow standard protocols! This is not & A&E problem…a review of my daughter then a phone call to refer her to Orthopaedics should have been the correct protocol. A&E are constantly seeing patients not being reviewed by their GP’s but simply told to go to A&E. This is breaking the system…the consultant that saw my daughter was very annoyed that no referral protocol was followed & actually said that this has to stop. Come on GP’s…it’s time to work together with your fellow colleagues. Our NHS is important to us all…we need to follow those protocols so the system works!! Otherwise our NHS will collapse. It’s patient negligence..
