"Not treated & feeling disappointed"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Endocrinology

(as the patient),

I am currently in my early fifties. About two years ago, during routine blood tests overseas, I was diagnosed with the onset of thyroid disease. I went to a specialist to confirm the diagnosis. This  doctor performed an ultrasound of the thyroid gland and found the existence of nodules on the thyroid gland. I was given a prescription for a small dose of Letrox.

After returning to England, I went to do ultrasound  of thyroid nodules  which are a serious signal that may indicate the development of neoplastic disease.

The UK are the only country where TSH levels must be very high to finally start treatment but for me this is too late and I’m in need of being listened to now.

After lots of reoccurring appointments to my local GP they finally agreed on a referral to see the endocrinologist at a Lincoln County Hospital this was over a year ago.

With symptoms still present In October 2021, I went back to the country where I was fist diagnosed visiting family and again I went to see the endocrinologist and they confirmed that I have a lump that is growing and needs to be checked with a biopsy. I did private blood test which shows that my antibodies are too high. What's mean it is Hashimoto’s disease.

I have told you above about my own research privately in this other country and I have consulted my results with several specialists in endocrinology and the message is clear. Even I called to a doctor in Germany to ask if I should get treatment. All of them said I need to get help NOW! Before will be worse. I need to start treatment to alleviate my current day to day symptoms which are being apathetic, tired and feel weak where I do not have the strength to work.

I feel really depressed because I can't see the way out of this trapped situation Lincoln County Hospital has put me in. I feel very ill, I'm always tired, I've lost a lot of hair, I have dark knees, I feel cold even when is hot day, it's all the result of an untreated thyroid. My bad mood affects the quality of my life and my family and I cannot continue the rest of my life with being told there is nothing wrong with me.

This tumour is growing in size and simply is a huge worry to myself and my family, something must be done. This is something that cannot just be left. What if it something more sinister than a thyroid issue. Investigations must be made. I simply cannot afford any private appointments in the UK so this is not an option even though this has been suggested to me by my own GP because of the state of the NHS. After ultrasound in Lincoln Hospital,  the doctor said tumour is nothing to worry about, because many people has this tumour????!!! What are we taking about? Is it a joke?

Have a biopsy performed on the tumour and look at medication to alleviate the thyroid symptoms that I have. More shocking fact is that the recommendation for treating people in UK is when TSH is 10.The following countries USA, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Sweden,  Belgium etc have a upper limit for TSH and it's 4 times lower than the range in UK. If you have TSH normal , but yours antibodies are high it is mean you have Hashimoto, what can slowly destroy your body if you will not get a help. I have no choice I need to go to my country to get a right treatment. So disappointed with heath care in England!
