I dialled111 after experiencing severe chest pain at night. I was advised to ring 999. An ambulance arrived within moments. This was because the paramedics had just completed another call nearby. I was admitted to A&E and transferred from a wheelchair to a trolley in a single room. Various checks including an x-ray took place throughout the night and I was transferred to AMIU1. Pneumonia was diagnosed. Treatment began. As I am 85 and live alone with some arthritis, Social Services were alerted. Two people came to see how they could assist my mobility. I was discharged that afternoon. Another call from Social Services came at 9.10am the next morning (a Saturday!) followed by a visit at 10am to have a look at my house with the same aim in mind. The upshot is that I received a call a few minutes ago from the person who is coming to fix a banister rail tomorrow. Throughout the whole experience I was kept fully informed and treated with respect and kindness. I am left full of admiration for all the people who contributed to my care. To the paramedics, porters, doctors, nurses, x-ray staff and support workers who combined their wide range of expertise to assist my recovery, I want to say a heartfelt 'Thank You!'
PS I'm feeling very well and very grateful.
"Wonderful Teamwork!"
