"Priceless stroke rehabilitation support"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Stroke care (Wards 56 and 68)

(as a carer),

My son was admitted to ward 56 stroke rehab  two months ago.  At that time he was facing a very bleak and uncertain future.  Since then the care he has received from the team has been exemplary.  The entire nursing team have been amazing. From day one to his discharge they have provided truly person centred care; recognising and responding to his changing needs with sensitivity, patience and humour. All staff made me feel welcome on the ward and ensured I was supported and kept informed  to enable me to be involved in his rehabilitation.

The kindness and caring shown to both my son and myself meant so much; finding time to listen to our concerns and respond to our worries in a supportive, encouraging and positive way, despite the pressures you were under.   Nothing was ever too much trouble.

I must also mention the therapy teams. The expertise, support, practical advice and encouragement of the physios, speech and language and occupational therapists has enabled my son to make real and meaningful progress towards his recovery.
As a result of the work of the whole team my son is walking out of the hospital looking forward with positivity to his future.  That is priceless.

Dear Mary.Hattie

Thank you for taking the time to leave such lovely feedback in regards to you and your son's experience of using the Stroke Ward of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

I was sorry to hear your son had to attend the ward and was worried about the impacts this may have on his future. This must have been an extremely worrying time for both of you.

It was however great to hear how that mindset soon changed after your son started to receive care and treatment within the ward from the staff.

I'm glad they were able to make you both feel welcomed and supported throughout his journey providing a person centred care approach.

I will be delighted to pass on your comments to the staff involved who I'm sure will be as touched as I was to read your story.

I hope your son is recovering well and please pass on our thanks for to your son for being a great patient from myself and everyone here at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Kind regards

Kevin
