I was referred to Dr Anderson at Dermatology with a mole which he reassured me was not a problem. He offered a full skin check even though I was informed on the appointment letter that I should mention nothing further.
Dr Anderson said a small lump under my eye could be cancerous and referred me to Mr Westlake, Consultant Ophthalmologist who subsequently did an operation to remove the lump. At a follow up appointment Mr Westlake told me the lab results showed it was a BCC, it could have been very dangerous if it had been left and if it had expanded a bit more as it was so near my eye. He said it was all out.
I am very grateful to Dr Anderson for seeing it, especially as I was not referred for that, and to Mr Westlake who carried out the operation and removed the stitches at a follow up appointment and explained everything carefully.
I am very pleased the lump has been found, diagnosed and removed before it caused greater problems and very grateful to both Dr Anderson and Mr Westlake for their care. Bearing in mind that this lump appeared shortly before lockdown when GP services were (and in some cases still are) cautious about face to face appointments and we were advised not to bother the GPs, there could have been a very different outcome.
I have had excellent care from both doctors at Treliske hospital.
"Excellent care for small basal cell carcinoma"
