"Unhappy with my local medical practice"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde

(as a service user),

I have a complaint to make about my GP practice. I called this morning to make 3 prescription requests for me, my baby son and my wife.  The person I spoke to I found to be totally abrupt.

There is no need to treat patients in this way. I have called the practice in the past for a prescription with no problem.  They did it over a voice call with me but this morning it was refused when my baby boy has 2 tablets left for a bad case of acid reflux.  He is still screaming and crying every day and I think and have always thought it is more than acid reflux but he can't get the correct help even after going to the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Glasgow twice.  He has been very unwell since he had covid at 3 weeks old.

I have tried in the past to get a prescription using the automated voice option and it wasn't sent, or the prescription wasn't even done by the practice, so that is why I called because it was an emergency for my 3 month old baby. All I got was someone refusing to help me;  I do not feel they should be in that job. I want to make a serious complaint.

I will now make changes to join another doctor. I have found this medical practice provides just a terrible terrible service all round. I feel very stressed and frustrated and also a lot of worry about my baby son!.

Dear Jimtheman

Thank you for your post on Care Opinion. I am very sorry to hear about the difficulties you experienced whilst trying to request prescriptions from your GP Surgery, and that you have been left worried and stressed. As GP’s are independent contractors with a separate feedback and complaints system I would suggest speaking to the Practice Manager to voice your concerns. (GP’s are not registered to respond directly to feedback through Care Opinion).

If you don't feel comfortable contacting the Practice Manager, you can contact the Patient Advice and Support Service (PASS). This is an independent service which provides free and confidential advice to patients about NHS healthcare. The service is provided by the Citizens Advice Bureau. The help line number is 0800 917 2127 and this is the website: www.patientadvicescotland.org.uk

Thank you

Nicole
