"No appointments possible"

About: Thorndike Surgery

In regards to the above practice, we have been members since February and we have found the two occasions where we needed a GP to be completely unreachable.

Case 1 - I had a rash that I wanted to get checked out (for potential cancer screening as I have in the family) - The GP did not have any appointments for weeks. Weeks!

Case 2 - I sprained my ankle and called the GP and was told no appointments for weeks and to try my luck with the A&E. For me this is a waste of A&E and I truly don't understand why we even have a GP.

The question is.... what is the purpose of a GP if we can't call them for anything?

We ended up having to purchase private insurance because we have 0 confidence that we will have any form of coverage or ever be able to see a GP at this practice no matter what the urgency or issue..

Dear Patient,

I am sorry you feel you have had problems accessing appointments at the practice.

As you have posted this review anonymously I am unable to investigate this, please contact me via the practice email: thorndike@nhs.net to provide more details so I can look into what happened and contact you.

The practice carefully plans the appointment system to ensure there is a sufficient number of both same day and routine appointments.

We offer two methods of accessing same day care via book on the day appointments and e-consultations. We urge patients to call at 8am for an appointment or to submit an e-consult before midday.

We also offer pre-bookable appointments for routine or on-going problems.

The reception staff are trained to offer all patients an option of accessing care, if a patient calls later in the day once all appointments have been allocated then they will be offered a routine appointment but given advice on how to access a same day appointment.

In the instance of an injury such as a sprained ankle you would be signposted to A&E so an x-ray can be carried out to rule out a fracture.

Once again we are sorry you feel dissatisfied with the service however please do get in touch on the email above so I can contact you to discuss further.

Many Thanks

April Bland- Practice Manager.
