"Feeling invalidated"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology Services BMI Albyn Hospital NHS Grampian

(as the patient),

In February 2022 I saw a consultant Gynaecologist at BMI Albyn hospital. As I don't have health insurance Albn informed myself and my GP that they would arrange to see me for an ultrasound on the NHS and put me on the waiting list for a laparoscopy, as the private quote was several thousand pounds which I am unable to afford. I called the Gynaecology department at ARI in April as I did not receive any information about the ultrasound appointment yet. The receptionist informed that they did not see me on their system and would check and get back to me. At this point I was concerned that they were unable to find me on their system as this was 2 months after I was informed that I would be seen for an ultrasound.

After not receiving her call back I followed up. The receptionist seemed annoyed that I was following up and said that the person with the information needed was on leave that week and would get back to me upon return. I still received no call back. I tried chasing it up again the following month for some information about my appointment or at least to find out if they had managed to find me on their system, but kept getting an answering machine saying to leave my details and they will call me back. I've left multiple messages with my details and still received no call back.

At one point I received a letter from BMI Albyn informing me that I am booked for surgery 3 working days later. This was concerning as I had already informed them two and half months prior that I was unable to afford surgery at BMI Albyn. I was further under the impression that I was on the NHS waiting list all along. It also concerned me receiving this booking letter as it implies that I was never placed on the NHS waiting list. I have also not yet been seen for an ultrasound so how could I be booked for surgery? I called the Gynaecology department at ARI again to find out if I am on the waiting list for a laparoscopy and to find out about the ultrasound appointment but got the answering machine informing me to leave a message and they will call me back. No surprise, nobody has called back.

I still have not received a call back nor any  information about any appointment. I know people working in the NHS are extremely busy and I really don't mind waiting for a long time before they can see me but some communication would be really helpful.

Unfortunately Albyn hospital does not have visibility of the NHS appointments however if you make contact with your GP or the consultant that you seen in February they should be able to confirm whether you have been placed on the waiting list.
