About: Oakmeadow Surgery (Ra Leach)

Got a message asking me to book in for blood test & BP. When I did this I was told this surgery no longer do routine blood tests you have to either go to LRI, or Leicester General hospital. I am a registered disabled patient with limited mobility, as well as COPD and asthma. There is NO way I can got to the hospital on my own, without my husband taking time off work. Totally appalled by this

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

Oakmeadow Surgery has never been contracted or funded to provide phlebotomy (blood tests). Before the pandemic most blood tests were done at Glenfield Hospital but they decided to stop this service and refuse to restart it.

A service was then available at Westcotes Health Centre. In March 2022 this service was stopped with no prior discussion or notification to Oakmeadow.

We continue to provide a limited phlebotomy service at Oakmeadow which is funded by the practice and not by the NHS. We are reserving this service for when we require same day blood tests, as part of a 'one stop' service, or for people who are too disabled to travel further.

We have formally complained to the commissioners about this problem, and have held a meeting with them where they admitted that had not taken into account the effect of stopping services at Glenfield and Westcotes would have on our patients. They have promised to develop a better solution.

In summary we were as appalled as you about the way this service was stopped by the NHS Commissioners and we will continue to press for a better, more convenient solution for our patients.
