"Heart issues"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Accident and emergency Pilgrim Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

Chest pains and short of breathe.  After being asked to report to A and E for cardio admission, I was shocked to see so many sick and worried people left in chairs for so long. I was approx 15 hrs before being seen.

The Integrated Assessment Centre ward (IAC) felt like a war zone. I was left by a bed at 4am and had to make it with sheets left at end of bed. I was not seen by any ward member until later. I was not sure to get in or onto the bed.

The different types of needs from lots of patients was vast, and I saw many elderly people upset and crying.

I moved to cardio 2 days later and it was a blessing after what I witnessed.

Even the cleaning and support staff were amazing and caring. Only on this ward did I feel I was in care.
