"Unable to get update on next of kin"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / 1 North Cardiology Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

Uncle admitted last week with heart failure. Told by A & E that he wouldn't make it through the night.

5 days later I still have not been told his condition by the ward despite being his next of kin. I have tried to contact on numerous occasions leaving  messages on the answering machine but no one has been in contact. Will certainly be taking this public.

Thankyou for taking the time to give us your feedback,

I can only apologize that you have not been updated on the condition of your Uncle. I understand how difficult it has been during Covid for families, not being able to see loved ones as frequently during Hospital admission.

It is quite unusual for family members not to have regular updates whilst your loved ones are patients on our ward.

Normal procedure in 1 North is that families are updated by nursing staff daily, on the plan of care, If not the NOK then the 2nd contact.

1 North do not have an answer phone to leave messages, would it be possible you have been ringing the wrong number? Could I suggest you ring through to the direct number, 02837561601. We will be able to give you a detailed update on you Uncles condition.

The staff will be informed again of the importance of daily updates with family members.
