"Excellent emergency care services"

About: East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance Newark Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a carer),

1 - My wife fell in the hallway and injured the little index finger on her right hand. On entry to Newark Hospital Emergency servicesshe was seen by Nurse Practitioner Fenn within minutes. X-rays were arranged within ten minutes and diagnosed as a fractured fragmented dislocation. Mr Fenn administered anaesthetic and performed the necessary action needed. His care and consideration for my wife were second to none as was all the follow up care.

2 - Again we had to visit the Hospital as she fell again, this time top to bottom of a straight staircase resulting in a badly cut head. After being seen to assess the damage and being cleaned up she had to have stitches and these were administered by Nurse Practitioner Fenn. Again his care and attention to my wife were excellent. Please make sure his treatment and care offered to my wife do not go unnoticed.

3 - 999 ambulance call advised a 6hour wait.  Fortunately my family live close by and they came to my rescue. Evidently something is very wrong with E M ambulance services, I certainly wasn’t happy with the service.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS).

If you are able to, we would appreciate you sharing your comments with our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) team, with as much detail as you can (e.g. patient's full name and date of birth, date, time and location for the 999 request), so that they might investigate the matter in more detail and provide a full response to you with regards to why there was such a delay that resulted in you making your own way to hospital. You may contact them via telephone on 0333 012 4216 10am-2pm weekdays (or leave a voicemail if you wish) or email emas.pals@nhs.net. We are very keen to provide a more detailed response and look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes, Sarah Connerton, Patient Experience Manager, East Midlands Ambulance Service
