"Admissions Unit 1"

About: Victoria Hospital / Admissions Unit 1 (Emergency Medical)

(as a service user),

Was sent to admissions unit 1 by GP due to ongoing chest infection and copd. They were worried about a blood clot on lungs( thankfully none). The unit was extremely busy and waiting times were extreme. Nurses came into waiting room and explained they could only have patients waiting to be seen in there as not enough room and there were patients waiting to get in there.

One person who was there with a friend refused to leave even though the nurses explained numerous times they were stopping a patient getting in. How they managed to remain professional and polite I do not know because I wouldn't have been able to. I waited quite a few hours, yes I was uncomfortable, yes I wished I could be seen quicker but.... there were people way worse off than me, the nurses were run off their feet and they did keep popping in to check on us all.

The waiting room was extremely hot but the lovely woman on the front desk even came out her room and gave us patients waiting a loan of her electric fan to cool us down. One of the nurses was back in for 3 pm to help out even though she was nightshift and only finished at 7am that morning and wearing a moonboot due to injury, but she was there helping and smiling putting people at their ease, so before anyone mouths off at our nurses just have a think about that. Thank you to the nurses, receptionists and the doctors for helping me and all those waiting for help yesterday, many of us really do appreciate what you do.
