"Disabled car park "

About: Derriford Hospital

We are both disabled and I was dropping my wife to an appointment after queuing to get into the disabled carpark I was told it was full and to park elsewhere. Why would you not put staff at the carpark entrance to stop people diving in instead of standing in the middle of the carpark turning people around causing more ques

The reason the disabled carpark was full was half of it was taken up with porta cabins why take up an already shortage of disabled parking where it is clearly needed would it not have been better to place them in another carpark so disabled people can use the few needed spaces you have

I am very sorry that you struggled on that day to find a disabled parking space, the hospital is busy with patients in and out all day for appointments and visiting. I am sorry that there wasn’t a car parking attendant at the entrance to the carpark telling visitors that the car park was full, I understand that there was someone about but maybe not in the best position to help. We will address this.

As you can see around you, there are lots of new buildings going up due to the ever-growing demand for services here at Derriford.

The spaces we lost in F car park we distributed around the site (17 of which were staff in the staff car parks)

Additional spaces were put in Public C, MSCP, and Maternity which we are due to lose soon.

Once again, I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused to you that day.

Alison Horn, Deputy Head of Facilities
