"Total Hip Replacement - Excellent Care"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

in April,  I had a total left hip replacement at Grantham Hospital. The care I had from every department was exemplary.  The doctors were very re-assuring prior to the operation and answered all questions with great care and attention. Every step of the way, my care was excellent. Everyone in ward two were very friendly and supported my recovery. This team are amazing.

I just have one issue that I feel should be addressed. Whilst the staff were absolute legends, covering 25 post op patients, I really felt for the night staff of two nurses and one support worker that were run ragged throughout the night with all the post op patients. More staff is needed on the night shifts.

Other than that one issue, my care was exemplary and I thank everyone who looked after me. The staff have so much to put up with some very rude and entitled patients that were on my ward. The nurses were patient and dealt with these ladies with good grace, much better than I could!

Overall the care I had was excellent and I thank the staff from all departments for looking after me so well.

Dear Vicky67

Thank you so much for your comments as this really does help with staff morale and they feel valued and appreciated by the patients. We aim to give the highest quality journey to our patients and you are testament to that we are getting it right.

I will share with the Doctors and the rest of the team and thank you for the comments for the night staff which is difficult when we work to such difficult patient to nurse ratios and we, to be fair, rarely have 25 patients overnight as this is usually throughout the day and limited patients at night but I will certainly share this to my managers so they are aware. It is, unfortunately, part of the NHS with staffing but we really strive to do the best we can with the staffing we have, therefore it’s still really good to hear that you had a good journey and doing well and we hope to see you again!

Take care

KR

Julie
