"Exceptional healthcare professionals"

About: Maternity care (Ward 31) / Labour suite maternity

(as a service user),

My waters broke near the end of March however I was not yet having contractions. I was advised to attend RAH maternity triage, where I was assessed and admitted as high risk pregnancy I needed to be monitored throughout my labour. I was admitted to the ward after having such good care in triage from the whole team!

The care and support received in the ward prior to delivery was also great, the midwives were so supportive and ensured I was comfortable at all times as I had started getting contractions. My contractions then halted in the early morning therefore labour and delivery planned to bring me down five hours later and do an augmentation, which is more a less bringing on contractions again to start labour.

As I had a previous caesarean and was attempting a VBAC this time I was considered high risk, therefore had to be monitored closely!

Once contractions started things were going really well, but soon after my pain took a turn for the worst especially across my old caesarean scar. The Midwives Laura and Lauren (one being a midwifery student) were absolutely exceptional! They escalated my condition to the Doctor who again was amazing. We then made decision to go for an emergency caesarean, which I was devastated about but the whole team were so supportive.

The team were so quick and efficient getting me around to theatre and all that followed. My baby was brought into the world very quickly and most importantly safely. Unfortunately, I had issues in which it took the team a long time to stop my bleeding which was scary but I knew I was in the best hands. They sorted me out and I went to recovery and was then transferred to the ward for aftercare with my baby.

With everything that happened it was an extremely scary time for myself and my partner, but the whole maternity team from triage right through until my discharge from the maternity ward were absolutely amazing and I feel its important that they know that.

I also couldn’t have done it without the midwives I mentioned above Lauren and Laura. The support, communication and overall care they provided throughout was to the highest standard and they should both be recognised for being exceptional healthcare professionals.

Dear DanH

Thank you so much for posting this lovely feedback. I am so happy to hear that all through your journey you experienced support, good communication and a high standard of care resulting in the safe delivery of your baby. I will share this feedback with the team at RAH And in particular the staff members you have named. I know this will mean a great deal to them to hear how they have positively influenced your experience. I hope you are recovering well after your delivery.

Best wishes

Angela Watt
