My mum has stage 4 cancer and suffered from a prolonged infection for the past three months. Which required hospital treatment. She was admitted to hospital for two nights one of which was spent on a hospital trolley and the other one ward. For the two nights she did not sleep and although she received great care they dr’s discharged her at the first available opportunity.
Two days later she was just as sick again, her GP referred to the hospital at home team to care for her as my mum was so ill but reluctant to return to hospital for treatment. As soon as mums place on the hospital at home team was confirmed a nurse rang to introduce herself and set up a time to visit.
Each day two extremely caring nurses attended to my mum along with the most attentive Doctor. The Dr took time understand mum’s medical history and current issues, she was extremely thorough and explained the issues and treatment clearly.
All of the nurses and the Dr took time with mum and made sure she understood what was happening. Being at home meant that mum could be cared by her family, sleep in her own bed and try to eat her own food when she was really struggling to eat (she didn’t eat at all in hospital) all of this I feel combines to create a much better environment for healing.
We would recommend this care service for anyone anxious about attending hospital or really unfit to leave home. Special mention to Dr Carpe and her team who was outstanding with mum.
