"Noisy ward is upsetting my partner"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital / General medicine

(as a carer),

My partner was moved to B5 early today from another ward after being told he may be well enough to go home.

First he said it is a noisy mixed sex ward. The noise is upsetting him. As a patient with Autism his needs haven't even being asked about, or his dietary needs.

They tried to force beef on him, when he is a vegetarian, which is a shocking thing to happen and should never have happened.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to share your partner’s experience with us. I am sorry to see that it has not been positive and that his needs were not being met on the ward.

We have recently installed sound ears onto our wards to help keep noise to a minimum, particularly at night. We hope to see an improvement in this issue as a result.

Our Safeguarding team are also developing a pack to support people on the wards who are living with Autism so I will share this experience with them so they can use it as an example to staff.

I hope this offers some assurance of work being done to improve these experiences. However, If you wish to discuss further, you can contact me on Patient.Experience@stockport.nhs.uk

Regards,

Aoife Isherwood
