I haven't been an inpatient within any hospital for over 25 years and my last experience was not one I’d like to repeat.
I was in for a minor procedure and ended up having a catheter fitted, the surgeon was keen for me to go home once this was removed and all the boxes were ticked This was done and the charge nurse was hesitant in me going home, this was due to the pain I was still in among other things, I still had it in my mind I was going home (I probably felt this way due to the negative stories in the media of late and of course the pandemic) after a few hours I still wasn't feeling great and the charge nurse again suggested I reconsider and stay overnight, I decided to take her advice.
Up until this point all of the staff I came in contact with were kind, caring and highly professional, and this did not change. I can't thank them enough, on several occasions I needed help they were there to assist me and they treated me with dignity and that it wasn’t too much trouble to help.
The meals I've heard so many horror stories about but was pleasantly surprised, it wasn’t for gourmet food but it was full of protein and was just what I needed.
My overall experience in the hospital was a very positive one, apart from the surgery but no one really wants to have it done. All the staff I came in contact with, as I mentioned before, were extremely professional, kind and caring, having experienced this first hand it’s installed a sense of pride in our health care system and for the people that work tirelessly within it.
