"Gold standard experience"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Oral and maxillofacial surgery

(as a service user),

Just discharged yesterday after an unexpected weeklong stay in FV Royal and it is absolutely necessary to record thanks and praise for the excellent service and professionalism shown by the hospital teams throughout my time.

A&E admission process was conducted quickly and smoothly despite the clearly high pressure demands on their time and attention. Examined and checked on by multiple consultants, Drs, nursing and support staff and kept updated on process, diagnostic tests, and likely clinical activity throughout.

Maxillofacial surgery took place that evening and the theatre team were nothing short of brilliant. Put completely at ease for awake intubation, explanations of everything going on, and a good sprinkle of bedside humour thrown in to keep things real! Theatre recovery nurses were vigilant and highly responsive to all patients in the area, their quick attention resolved the minor issues I encountered straight away.

Remainder of time was spent recovering in one of the surgical wards. Without exception I watched the nursing staff, and all of the hospital support team staff, working at high speed to ensure patient received the best service possible. Ad hoc patient needs always given required attention whilst they continued to keep on top of scheduled activities.  Interactions always friendly and helpful - even on occasions where seen to be dealing with verbally abusive and/or combatant patients. Some truly have the patience of saints!

Again, during time in ward, members of the Maxillofacial team were always a daily presence to both check/update on progress and route plan for discharge and aftercare requirements.

It’s clear that the multi-disciplinary team working at facility is a high priority and from patient perspective is operating very effectively.

As someone who really does not frequent our NHS facilities with any regularity, it was daunting to suddenly find myself on a FV Royal mini break but, whilst illness is never a positive experience, the care and attention I received during stay most definitely was!

A final and very sincere Thank You to all who were involved both directly and indirectly in my care during the short stay, you are all amazing!

Dear amf2000

Thank you very much for taking the time to post this lovely feedback.

I am sorry to hear that you required to attend ED and subsequently required surgery and admission, but I am delighted to hear you had such a positive experience. I hope you are well on your way to recovery now.

Feedback such as this is very welcome, particularly during such challenging times, as we continually strive to provide excellent patient care. I will ensure this is shared with the ED team.

Thank you again and best wishes.
