"My husband's care"

About: Chalmers Hospital / Inpatient Ward

(as a relative),

My husband was receiving radiotherapy from Mon to Friday and had chemotherapy which was sent directly from the cancer ward ARI. My husbands cancer nurse specialist notified me that the staff has not been giving my husband his chemo meds at the weekend despite them having explicit instructions on how they should be given. No one had told me this at the hospital and when I asked a member of nursing staff,  they did not apologise but stated it was nothing to do with them as the doctor hadn't explained this.

My cancer specialist nurse was very angry when I told her their response and said this was not the case as clear instructions had been sent to the nursing staff. This happened at the beginning of 2019 and I have been affected with grief since,  but now I have had 9 months of anti depressants.  I wonder how this affected my husbands remaining time and feel the staff did not give me any support over this matter.  As it was brain cancer my husband was not able to challenge things.

I understand this will have been a most difficult time and would like to apologise for any communication found to be unsupportive. We have discussed in detail the information which you have kindly provided to us and will make every effort to ensure best practice.

We wish you well and hope you feel better soon.'

If you would like to get in touch please call 01261 812567 and ask for me directly.
