"Shambles of a hospital"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

Was referred by my GP to attend the urgent treatment unit (who had actually called ahead). I “checked in “ at 5pm and was asked to wait to been seen. I was told waiting time would be around 6 hours . I was not seen by anybody until 11pm to be told “oh I cannnot treat you as you need a specialist “ by a Dr. I did advise the care staff I am a diabetic thankfully a family member brought me food to eat at 1am I was seen by a “specialist “ at 3am the following morning to be told I need a blood test and it shouldn’t be long now. My bloods were taken at 4am to be then told” it shouldn’t take long as it’s quiet and the results will come quick . I was still waiting until around 8 am for the results at which point my wife approached a nurse to ask how long she did explain again that I am diabetic and I need to eat she also explained that we have been sat here since 5pm the evening before . The nurse didn’t seem interested her reply was “ oh yes the dr will see your results and get back to you and walked off. She didn’t even ask my name or anything. All she was interested in was talking to her friend about her day (she had only started her shift when my wife approached her so what she had to talk about was beyond me. We then awaited another 30 min before my wife approached another nurse to ask the same question on how long will it be and explain again that I was diabetic and need to eat she also said that she has to start work at 10 am and if we do not hear by 9 am we will be leaving. This nurse said the same thing the dr need to see the results and would get back to us so again my wife said she needs to start work at 10 am. The time now is 9am the last nurse my wife spoke to came back to us and said “the dr has looked at the results and everything is fine and we can go home also the dr will call you for a follow up appointment the following Friday at this point we had waited for 15 hours to the. Be told “ everything is fine and we can go home” my wife double checked that I did not need any medication or anything and double checked that what she said about a follow up call will happen to be replied with “yes a dr will call you on Friday for a follow up” my wife again checked that they had both my and her mobile numbers the reply was “ yes”. So we left. The following Friday We were not surprised a little bit that we did not get a call from the hospital but thankfully I did have an appointment with my GP who did the referral. The GP asked why we did not attend the hospital to I said I was told the dr will call so a telephone consultation not a face to face one. My GP said she will call me back later in the day to check if they had called. She did but no surprise the hospital didn’t. I had an appointment with my GP today to be shown a letter from a dr accusing Me of failing to attend my follow up. Who in the right mind would want to sit in a waiting room for 15 hours to be fobbed off and accused of wasting time . Some Drs shouldn’t be Drs at all
