"hospital stay after car accident"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Orthopaedics (Wards 10a, 10b, 10c &10d) Scottish Air Ambulance

(as the patient),

My experience of the kindness and professional service from the multi disciplinary team following a car crash was exceptionally good. The helicopter retrieval team were very professional, efficient and kind, and given the bad bad weather, my flight was as comfortable as could be expected. On arrival at the QEUH a trauma call was put out and I had a rapid assessment and investigation of my injuries, and a great deal of care was taken to make sure that I was not in pain. I was admitted to ward 10 d and subsequently 10 a, where the nursing, physiotherapy and medical care I had was exceptionally good. I was encouraged to eat and keep mobile to the best of my ability, and the nurses and physios were very kind and considerate in managing my pain. Thank you all for providing me with such a good experience of my emergency trauma management. I was really grateful for everything that everyone did. I would really like to specially thank the student nurses who took such good care of me - they were wonderful.

Dear FenderBenderLass

Thank you for taking the time to leave such lovely feedback in regards to your experience of using the A&E Department and the Orthopaedics Department of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

It was great to hear how the staff managed your pain management when you first arrived in the department and throughout your stay.

It was also nice to hear how you were made to feel comfortable and you were instantly put at ease in what must have been a very worrying time for you and your family.

I will be delighted to pass on your thanks to the nursing, physiotherapy and medical care teams especially the student nurses who I'm sure will be humbled to hear such positive feedback.

I hope your now recovering well and thanks again this means so much to the staff involved in these difficult times.

Kind regards

Kevin

Dear FenderBenderLass

I was very sorry to hear about your recent car accident but pleased to read your feedback about everyone involved in your care.

As part of the Scottish Trauma Network, the Scottish Ambulance Service is working hard to develop the care we provide to patients who have been suffered traumatic injuries. As well as improving the care we provide at the scene of the incident, this also involves how we get our patients to the right hospital (by air or road) and how we work with our hospital colleagues to ensure a joined up approach to trauma care. It is always pleasing to hear an example of where this has worked well.

I would like to pass on your thanks to the pre-hospital team who cared for you but would need some more details about the incident to do this. If you are able to provide some more details, please contact me at: martin.esposito@nhs.scot.

In the meantime, on behalf of the Scottish Ambulance Service, I wish you well with your continued recovery and thank you again for sharing your experience.

Take care.

Martin.
