"Limited hours and condescending phone manner"

About: Sexual Health Services - North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent (Open Clinic)

(as the patient),

I looked on the website for clinic hours, having to get my mother to call for an appointment due to the poor phone hours, to be told I needed a phone appointment for pill renewals.

When I took this call however, the person at the end of the phone was condescending and rude when they told me I needed a face to face appointment. I was told the clinic isn’t open past 4pm, which according to the website is 6pm.

I work until 4, and so can’t make that appointment to which I was told: “Just take some leave from your job” to attend an appointment. And when I questioned the 6pm closing time was told that there was a “pesky thing called a pandemic” that disrupted hours, in a rude and condescending tone.

I was then told to go to a pharmacy to have my blood pressure, height and weight taken but that I’d “better go off and do some research” so I wasn’t charged at the pharmacy.

I now need to go to the pharmacy, get my mum to call back to make another phone appointment, to wait for that call, and give the information over, then wait for pills to be posted.

There was no need for the rude manner in which I was spoken to, being made to feel guilty for working and needing later appointments.

Dear indusgg9

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on the service you received. I would like to apologise for the way you were spoken to by the staff. We expect our staff to treat all our patients with respect and it is really disappointing to hear your comments.

I would like to investigate this further so if you are able to email me your name, date of birth and date of your appointment, I would be happy to look into this for you to ensure you receive an improved service in the future.

Kind regards.

Julia Barraclough - Service Manager
