"Alcohol detox"

About: Dame Carol Detoxification Service

(as a service user),

I was admitted for 10 days for an alcohol detox. I was petrified about what was going to happen, how I would feel and how my body would react. The staff were welcoming, calming, friendly and very professional and soon put me at ease after explaining the process for the forth coming days.

The facilities are fantastic, clean and comfortable.

I found the daily group sessions incredibly useful, with the care workers sharing their own experiences invaluable. The tools I have learnt will help me get through the months to come, which if I'm honest I'm worried about.

The food was good, healthy and tasty......but I did get slightly bored of sandwiches mostly for lunches.

Team work

The Doctors and nurses I found to also to be superb, a great team ethic in a newly opened facility, always upbeat and always around to help or indeed chat.

Staff attitude

The only things I think the bedrooms lacked was a mirror in the on-suite and a towel rail.

I cant thank the staff enough for their amazing support to get me through these last 10 days to aid my recovery.

Environment

Environment

As a facility, more artwork and perhaps more plants around would be a good thing.

The outside space requires a seating area, which I understand is soon to be supplied. The conservatory was never in use, again due to a lack of furniture. I hope the funding is made available for these in the future.

All around a VERY positive experience that I truly grateful to have the opportunity to have the support. This is my 9th day alcohol free, I haven't felt this good in years.

Thank you to all the Team, BIG Love.

I intend to gift the unit some of my photography prints and canvases as a personal thanks for me.

Hello PhotoSoberDude;

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us feedback with regards to your treatment journey with us.

It's completely normal to feel anxious, nervous and worried about attending a detox unit but I'm so glad the team were able to put you at ease and welcomed you with open arms.

You should be so proud of yourself for committing to the stay and taking part in the group sessions. It's always nice to hear others share their personal stories during groups, it certainly makes you feel like you aren't alone and validates your own feelings. I'm so glad you managed to learn new skills whilst with us and I hope these remain with you as do your positive memories here at DCDS.

We are looking at being able to provide more group facilities for clients as we completely understand many people find arts and crafts therapeutic and very helpful during their detox, especially after their meditation sessions!

We're really thankful for your kind words and are so very pleased you had such a positive experience within the DCDS unit.

The team endeavour to always ensure your stay here is as comfortable as it can be,

I shall pass on your kind words to the staff and we wish you all the best for the future.

Amberley Orchard - DCDS Bed Manager.
