I had to phone 999 when my 16 year old daughter started having severe involuntary movements after feeling unwell all-day.
I was scared but was reassured by the call handler and how quick the paramedics arrived.
The paramedics were fantastic and took us both to hospital after they controlled her involuntary movements with medication.
On arrival to A&E we waited a short while for a room as they were busy. We were seen by a lovely nurse who listened and reassured my daughter and myself. We had a short wait to see the Doctor but nursing staff regularly checked on us. The Doctor had a lovely empathetic manner and explained everything to us. Once he told us the plan of care we were moved to the assessment ward.
On arrival to the assessment ward the great professional care continued which was so reassuring to me as a worried and anxious mum.
We quickly saw a consultant who explained the plan and precautionary treatment was commenced. The nurse looking after us was so friendly and really put us at ease and I really felt my daughter was in good hands.
We were moved out the assessment area into the ward overnight and my daughter was monitored.
It was reassuring that we were seen by the Doctor early the next morning and the plan of what was going to happen next was explained - MRI scan and lumbar puncture. My daughter had first class care in the assessment ward with high temperatures treated quickly and staff just popping in checking we were both ok really made a huge difference.
After she had the MRI scan we got the results quickly, we were seen by a lovely Neurologist and reassured by the MRI results. I was really impressed by how quickly the investigations were happening.
Next the lumbar puncture which was very traumatic for my daughter but the Doctor carrying out the procedure was fantastic and explained everything and was very empathetic towards my daughter.
We got the reasuring results quickly and were kept in another night due to her still having high temperatures and pain.
The fantastic care and attention and effective communication continued until we were discharged later the following day.
My daughter is now recovering at home and I am so very grateful to all the lovely professional staff we met on her journey.
"Great care my daughter received."
