"Emergency appendectomy"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Accident & Emergency Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Paediatric surgery ( Wards 3A & 3B)

(as a service user),

My son attended A&E at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow earlier this week with abdominal pain and vomiting. He was admitted to ward 3B, under the care of the surgical team and went to theatre less than 24hours later.  Everyone from the A&E team, to the many ward nurses we met, Mr Jacovides, David the surgical reg, the theatre staff (including the Spanish male member of staff who escorted us to the theatre), the anaesthetists (I'm sorry, I can't remember everyones' names) were friendly, helpful, professional and reassuring. Everyone clearly introduced themselves,  engaged with my son to make him feel at ease and explained things in a way he could understand. You were all great and we would like to thank you all for the wonderful care we received.

Hi carolynd,

I am the Lead Nurse for our ED department. I am sorry to hear your son was unwell and needed to attend our department. This must have been a very worrying time for you both, I hope he is feeling better now.

I am delighted to hear that your experience was positive and that our team were friendly, helpful, professional and reassuring and that you received wonderful care. I am also really pleased to hear the staff put your son at ease and explained things to him in ways he could understand.

I have passed on your comments to the staff in our Emergency Department. We love hearing parent and patient feedback so the team will be really appreciative that you have taken the time to tell us your story.
