"Long wait for spinal care"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurosurgery (Ward 64 – 66)

(as a relative),

My mum has recently been diagnosed with CES. Every medical journal I have read about this condition states that treatment should be undertaken within 24-48 hours from MRI diagnosing this life changing condition. However, my mum is still awaiting a consultation to see a spinal surgeon weeks after her diagnosis.

My mum received an appointment for mid March which gave us some hope that treatment would soon follow. However, this appointment has now been cancelled by the hospital with no explanation as to why or when she can expect another appointment.  My mum has been in chronic pain for 2 years and hardly able to walk and further waiting is just unacceptable.

Waiting goes against the recommendations in all published articles for CES and is already a condition that is diagnosed late and why there are so many law suits surrounding late diagnosis. Time is of the essence and lumbar decompression is necessary and further waiting and uncertainty is causing my mum and our family a great deal of worry.  My understanding is that this is a department with several spinal surgeons so the fact my Mums appointment has been cancelled with no explanation is bewildering.

I’d like someone to look into this situation immediately and contact us to let us know what you intend to do about this.
