"A real asset to the health service"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Ophthalmology

(as a service user),

I was told by the Consultant Ophthalmologist that I needed eye injections for my eye condition.

I was very, very nervous about this and did nothing but worry from the moment I was told this up until I received my injection. I attended on the day for my injection feeling very apprehensive. I shouldn’t have been.

The team are just fantastic!! From the moment I was called in, I was treated with the upmost care and respect.
I want to say in particular a massive thank you to my injector Victoria and the nurse, Helen. I also want to say thanks to the other nurse who gave me my lovely blue ‘bunnet’ and chatted with me before my injection but apologies as I can’t remember her name - I was so nervous!
Victoria was very thorough but also so kind. She explained to me what was going to happen and asked me if I had any questions. Her and Helen made sure I was comfortable before the injection began and they kept me calm throughout and it was made sure I didn’t feel the procedure - it was totally painless! Helen even offered to hold my hand. They made me feel so at ease and I’m now no longer worried about attending for further injections.
A huge thanks to the wonderful staff in the injection team at Hairmyres Hospital - you are a real asset to the NHS.

Dear InMyEyes,

Thank you for taking the time to provide such positive feedback about the team and your procedure; I hope other people requiring this treatment will take heart from your experience and not be so worried when attending.

The team know people attending for this type of treatment are likely to be very anxious and work very hard to put everyone at ease.

It's so important that you understand what treatment you are receiving and what this involves, I'm really pleased to hear that you had the chance to ask questions and have things explained to you.

You've also mentioned that the injection was painless, excellent news indeed! I would say that is testament to the skill and professionalism of Victoria and her other colleagues who are "injectors" for this particular procedure.

It will be my pleasure to share your feedback with the team; they'll be delighted to receive it.

I wish you well with your ongoing treatment.

Kind regards

Rick
