"Lack of compassion"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Accident and emergency Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I went into A&E with a suspected ectopic pregnancy. Most of the staff were great--A&E reception, security, and the nurses there were all professional and kind. When I got to the A23 ward to be examined, most of the staff there were fine as well. It was only one doctor whose treatment of me was appalling. They talked to me like I was an inconvenience. I was scared and in a lot of pain, and it wasn't until I started crying due to the way I was being spoken to that I got an iota of compassion. I don't think someone with this attitude should be working with patients who are often in an emotional, vulnerable situation.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us and I’m sorry to read of your experience in the department at what I’m sure was a very upsetting time for you. This is certainly not how we want our patients to feel at such an emotional and vulnerable time and I would appreciate the opportunity to look into what happened during your visit. Please could you contact us at QMCPET@nuh.nhs.uk so that we can take some further details from you.

Kind regards

Sarah Kordula
Ward Manager, Ward A23
