"Completely changed my life "

About: The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust

My mobility deteriorated until my GP referred me to Walton Centre at the start of the pandemic. The neurologist ordered a series of scans until the cause of my problems was identified and I was subsequently referred to neurosurgery.

More scans followed and I was offered an operation which I gratefully accepted so I was placed on the waiting list.

I was admitted to Caton ward for my operation which, I understand, went very well and I am now recovering at home.

The whole of my experience at the Walton Centre has been during the restrictions of the pandemic but all staff have been very approachable and have always taken the time to explain the procedures to me and to put me at ease. During my stay on Caton ward all the staff were caring and professional. The anaesthetists and surgeons explained the procedures in detail so that I was much more relaxed about my trip to theatre than I thought I would be!

Following my operation the aftercare on the ward was excellent and I even had a couple more visits from the surgeons to check on my progress.

The following day I was well enough to be discharged so the physiotherapy team arrived to explain my exercises and a care plan was given to me, along with a bag of medications.

Since then, all the local arrangements for the transfer of care to local District Nurses, physiotherapists etc. have gone smoothly (I live in north Wales).

I think the most remarkable thing about my experience with Walton Centre has been that it has all taken place during the pandemic and it has taken only 15 months from my first consultation with the neurologist to recovering from my operation. My mobility is improving daily and I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all those who made my treatment possible. The Walton Centre has changed my life for the better in the most difficult of times.

Hello Peter

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review and share your story. We were delighted to hear that from when we recieved your referral that you underwent your investigations in a timely manner and following this you were referred for surgery which you underwent successfully. It was reassuring to read that the anaesthetist and surgeon explained everything to you in a way that you could understand and this helped with your worries regarding going to theatre.

Thank you for the positive comments regarding your care on Caton ward, the staff are very caring. It was superb that your wonderful care continued from the community service when you returned home.

We would like to take the opportunity to wish you well in your ongoing recovery.

With Kind Regards

The Patient Experience Team
