Over the last 3 weeks 2 online forms have been submitted from our household.

My daughters was suffering from a re-occurring dose of tonsillitis. She explained that she would like her usual penicillin to avoid it getting worse resulting in time off work. She was given an appointment 12 days later - and guess what, she ended up so ill, was off work.

Last week I submitted a request to speak to doc about possible referral for an elbow problem I have had for many months - so expected a couple of weeks wait, which is fine given that it’s not exactly life threatening! As requested on the form I let them know that I was not available the next day, the rest of the week I was.

By mid day the next day (when I said I wasn’t free) I notice a txt message letting me know I had a cons that morning, and of course I had missed it.

- why was my appointment with a sore elbow deemed that important that it needed a doc to speak to me the very next day, versus someone with a virus/infection resulting in quick deterioration and loss of earnings? (And by the way - the worse dose of tonsillitis she has ever experienced due to delay in treatment).

- and why waste time and valuable NHS resource arranging appointments when the patient has clearly states they are not around.
