"Not great start but fantastic stay and finish"

About: The Tunbridge Wells Hospital

I had hip surgery on Wednesday 26th January 2022 at Penbury Hospital. My wife came to the Hospital with me and we knew that she would only be allowed in to main reception however the staff member on the entrance door was very rude and abrupt about how far my wife could go which was not a good start as I was already apprehensive about surgery and my wife felt very unhappy about how she was treated and spoken to. Once I got down to admissions ward the staff were brilliant. I spoke with the surgeon who explained the procedure and the anaesthetist who explained what his role would be. I was in surgery for about 4 hours and in recovery for a further 2 hours. After this I was taken to wells suite room 7. The staff on wells suite are a credit to your Hospital from day team to night team. Everyone was polite and professional and you could tell that they cared and wanted you to feel looked after and be pain free. I really hope that they get to hear about this comment as I feel that this level of care should be recognised. I want to thank everyone I came in to contact with from the moment I got on to the admissions ward. We all live in a world of extra stress at the moment especially with Covid, but that was not evident as everyone was at the highest level of care and professionalism. Thank you for your support

Dear Mr Austin

Thank you very much for taking time to leave feedback on your admission to The Wells Suite at Tunbridge Wells Hospital.

We were sorry to read that you and your wife didn't get the reception we would have hoped for when you arrived and apologise for the upset that this caused both of you. We have shared your comments with our security manager, so that he can ensure the team are greeting people with kindness, especially those attending for surgery, who can be understandably anxious.

However, we were delighted to learn that following this poor start, you received a brilliant level of care and treatment from the clinical teams, both in theatre and on the ward. We want all our patients to feel well cared for and comfortable on our wards and are so pleased that this was your experience. Please be assured that we will share your kind words and thanks with them, and know how much they will appreciate your comments.

We hope you have recovered well from your surgery.

With very best wishes

Angela, MTW PALS Manager
