"Told to go to A&E"

About: The Croft Surgery

(as a service user),

After a course of antibiotics from the out of hour doctor, my condition had improved, but my eye was still a bit swelling and painful. Rang the Surgery on 13th Jan 2022, morning, I was told I would be phoned after 2 pm. Receiving the nurse called back and told me to see the doctor the next morning at 9 am. I took a great effort to explain to her my condition might be worse after 24 hours if I could not see the doctor or take the antibiotic today. It was my experience two years ago: swollen eye, swelling frontal sinus and severe headache. I ended up in the hospital for 5 days. I told her to check my record. I do not want to be admitted to the hospital. At last, she prescribed a course of antibiotics to me and told me to see the doctor at 9 am tomorrow.

The next morning at 9 am, I was expected to see a doctor. I waited for 30 minutes; a nurse came to see me.They told me I was wrong that I was told to come to see a doctor. There was no point to argue with them. I told them about my condition and showed the swelling on my frontal sinus. The nurse was rude, had no empathy, and not listened to what I was talking about my condition.  They carried on telling me if the antibiotic did not help me, not to come to the surgery, go to the A&E at the hospital. I repeated I did not want to go to the hospital; I just wanted to have doctor advice.

I was shocked the practice could tell a patient to go to A&E directly instant of seeing a GP.

After discussing with my husband and our close friends, we all decide to change the surgery.
